Guinea’s President seeks Morocco’s return to AU



Guinea’s President Alpha Conde has called for the quick return of Morocco to the African Union.


The Guinean President made the call on his arrival at Fez to attend the ninth international agriculture exhibition of Morocco.


Conde, who described as abnormal Morocco’s absence at the AU, said “We hope that Morocco regains its place as soon as possible within the AU, of which it is a founding member.”


The Guinean Head of State also assured that his country would continue to support the autonomy proposal presented by Morocco for the settlement of the Western Sahara issue.


PANA reports that Morocco formally withdrew from the OAU in 1984 following the admission of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic as a full member of the organisation.


SADR is claiming sovereignty over the whole Western Sahara territory, which Morocco claims as its own.
