Police begin probe of Edo hunter’s killing

The Area Commander, Edo-North Police Command at Auchi, Edo State, Mr Jinwan Dazong, said on Friday that the Police had commenced investigation into the mystery surrounding the killing of a hunter, one Mohammed Siaka.

Dazong disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Auchi.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident took place at Igarra in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.

The commander said the police wanted to determine whether the deceased was murdered by Fulani herdsmen or his friend, Mr Danjuma Isiaka, who accompanied him on a hunting expedition, following some contradictory statements made to the police.

“The Criminal Investigative Department is fully in charge of the case. The key suspect in the murder, Mr Danjuma Isiaka, who accompanied the late Siaka on a hunting expedition, is now in the custody of the state CID.

“We assure the Igarra community that the police will get to the root of the matter,’’ he said.

The President of the Igbirra community, Mr Isiaka Taiye, said the decomposing body of the late Siaka was found in the bush four days after he left the house for hunting with his friend.

Taiye explained that Isiaka had claimed that they were attacked by some suspected Fulani herdsmen, while hunting in the bush.

“It was discovered that Isiaka never told anyone about the attack and even during the search for the deceased, he led us to a different direction in the bush.

“The corpse was eventually discovered by the community’s search team four days after the incident had happened,’’ he added.
