Security Beefed As PDP Governors Meet In Jigawa

Security has been beefed up in Dutse as PDP governors gather for a meeting in the Jigawa capital, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.


Our correspondent, who went round some parts of the city, observed that many policemen and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been deployed to many areas.


Mr Abdu Jinjiri, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa Police Command, who spoke to NAN on the development, said the measure was to ensure adequate protection for the guests.


“We have provided adequate security for the visit of the governors; it is nothing new because we do so for all visitors of that calibre,’’ he said.


Jinjiri advised residents of the state not to be panic over the presence of security personnel, and described the measure as “just normal.’’


NAN learnt that 18 governors and two deputy governors are expected for the meeting expected to start at 7.00 p.m Tuesday.


Our correspondent confirmed that many governors were already in Dutse for the event.(NAN)

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV INEC to issue permanent voter cards in 10 states The National Independent Electoral Commission says it will commence the issuance of the permanent voter cards in 10 states of the federation. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue, Alhaji Baba Yusuf, told journalists on Tuesday that the issuance of the cards would be between May 23 to May 25 while the continuous voters’ registration would hold between May 28 and June 1. He said the commencement of the two exercises were a prelude to the 2015 general elections. Yusuf explained those eligible to register in the CVR included those who were not up to 18 years as at 2011 and those who were unable to register during the last exercise. “Those who had problems with the direct data capture machines and were not captured during the 2011 registration exercise as well as those who could not register in 2011 for one reason or the other can also register this year,” he said.
