Al-Makura Pledges Adequate Potable Water To Citizens

Gov Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State said on Friday that his administration would continue to prioritise the provision of potable water to the citizens in the state.

Al-Makura said this when he visited the site of the multi-million naira water plants in Nasarawa, headquarters of Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, unless clean and safe drinking water is provided for citizens, sickness will continue to be a common occurrence in the country.

The governor, who described potable water as the fundamental right of the citizens, said his administration would do everything humanly possible to provide safe and quality water for domestic use across the state.

“Water is the most important constituent of life without which life cannot exist, and very soon renovation work on Mada Water Works would be completed and more bore holes would be drilled to provide water for the people at the grassroots.”

Al-Makura, who expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the multi-million naira water treatment plant, said work would be completed on schedule.

“What I am happy about is that the basic infrastructure pertaining to the project has already been completed. What we are having now is the engineering work, virtually all the components for the treatment plant have already arrived,” he said.

According to him, his administration considers the issue of water supply key, hence the huge investment in Nasarawa as

it is meant to put an end to decades of non-availability of potable water in the area.

In his remarks, the project site engineer, Mr Abdulmumuin Usman, told the governor that the project would be executed according to specification, adding that the capacity of the plant had been increased from 0.5 million gallons per day to 3 million gallons per day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was also at the site of the 100-bed capacity ultra-modern hospital in the area, where he expressed unhappiness with the slow pace of work at the site.

Al-Makura blamed the slow pace of work on a change in plan of the hospital from a sixty-bed capacity to a 100-bed capacity hospital.

“I have just been informed about certain changes with regards to adjustment of the initial plan. They are only seeking approval of the changes so that they continue. I have already asked them to bring the request which is not financial but structural.

“I am sure, after the approval, the pace and tempo of work will increase because this is just what they are waiting for.” (NAN)
