PDP is looking beyond 2015 – Anenih



The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih, on Wednesday said that the party was looking beyond the 2015 general elections.


Anenih said in spite of prediction of doom about Nigeria, the ruling party is looking beyond 2015 in its efforts to faithfully sustain a stable, functional and democratic nation.


The BOT chairman said this in a statement titled: “Nigeria is stronger than it has ever been” issued in Abuja, to commemorate 15 years of uninterrupted democracy, in Nigeria, he said the PDP-led Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan has been upholding the sanctity of unfettered democratic “interaction and expression” in the country since stepping in the saddle.


Anenih said despite the security challenges occasioned by terrorism, Nigeria remains stronger that it has ever been.


The statement partly reads: “May 29, 2014 marks 15 years since Nigeria returned to democracy. I congratulate all Nigerians on this important occasion, especially since our nation is now well into her longest running democratic dispensation since independence in 1960.


“This year’s Democracy Day falls within a period when, arising from the scourge of terrorism, some people question the strength of our democracy and unity. Without hesitation, I assure all Nigerians that, despite the challenges we are facing today, Nigeria is stronger than it has ever been.


“Let me express how grateful we, in the Peoples Democratic Party, are to our fellow compatriots that they have entrusted our great party with steering the ship of state since our nation’s return to democracy in 1999. It has been a great privilege and a momentous undertaking.”


According to him, like with all human endeavours, Nigerians have had their differences but owe it a duty to one another to protect the nation’s values and continue to function as a democratic entity.


The PDP, he said had in its 15 years at the helm of affairs created an atmosphere that allows total freedom of expression, dissent and the greatest level of inclusive political participation ever recorded in our country.


He said a case in point was that never before has Nigeria seen the high number of women in senior elective and appointive positions as obtains today under the PDP’s leadership.

Donna Karan Apologizes (Again) After Defending Harvey Weinstein

Designer Donna Karan says she didn’t know the extent of the accusations against Harvey Weinstein before she spoke out to defend the disgraced movie mogul. “I heard a whisper, but there were whispers all over,” Karan, 69, said of the sexual misconduct allegations during an interview with ABC News which aired Monday on Good Morning America . “It wasn’t until a day and a half after the I truly heard about it.” She added: “That’s my honest truth. Latest blog entries - Eloti tV INEC to issue permanent voter cards in 10 states The National Independent Electoral Commission says it will commence the issuance of the permanent voter cards in 10 states of the federation. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue, Alhaji Baba Yusuf, told journalists on Tuesday that the issuance of the cards would be between May 23 to May 25 while the continuous voters’ registration would hold between May 28 and June 1. He said the commencement of the two exercises were a prelude to the 2015 general elections.
