Cross River’s House Opposes Ceding Territory To Cameroun




Cross Rivers House of AssemblyMembers of the Cross River State House of Assembly say they will not allow an inch of the state’s territory to be ceded to Cameroun.


This formed part of the resolution reached at the floor of the House on Wednesday after a motion raised by members representing Boki 1 in the State House of Assembly.


Ernest Eki drew the attention of the House to the alleged ongoing boundary adjustment in his constituency as well as many other communities across the state.


In an attempt to guard against a repeat of what happened in the Bakassi boundary dispute, the House members questioned the arrival of the United Nations Mixed Commission who arrived in the state without any government official.


In Boki Local Government Area, tension arose as indigenes took to the street protesting the presence of the United Nations boundary adjustment team in the state.


The Boki area is said to have huge carbon credit which could be found in the forest and there are also allegations that the government of Cameroun is after the area because of the natural resource.


The cry for swift action by the Federal Government is coming from all quarters.


During the plenary, the Speaker of the House, Larry Odey, called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps toward addressing the ugly situation to prevent the state from losing more communities and one of her rich natural endowments.


The people of Boki Local Government Area are also asking the government not to overlook this situation, as the thick forest had been for 800 years, their pride, their home and their source of livelihood.


The ongoing exercise has put over 20 villages in the state, including the part of the famous Obudu Ranch Resort, under threat of being ceded to Cameroon if a proactive measure by government is not taken.

Donna Karan Apologizes (Again) After Defending Harvey Weinstein

Designer Donna Karan says she didn’t know the extent of the accusations against Harvey Weinstein before she spoke out to defend the disgraced movie mogul. “I heard a whisper, but there were whispers all over,” Karan, 69, said of the sexual misconduct allegations during an interview with ABC News which aired Monday on Good Morning America . “It wasn’t until a day and a half after the I truly heard about it.” She added: “That’s my honest truth. Latest blog entries - Eloti tV INEC to issue permanent voter cards in 10 states The National Independent Electoral Commission says it will commence the issuance of the permanent voter cards in 10 states of the federation. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue, Alhaji Baba Yusuf, told journalists on Tuesday that the issuance of the cards would be between May 23 to May 25 while the continuous voters’ registration would hold between May 28 and June 1. He said the commencement of the two exercises were a prelude to the 2015 general elections. Yusuf explained those eligible to register in the CVR included those who were not up to 18 years as at 2011 and those who were unable to register during the last exercise. “Those who had problems with the direct data capture machines and were not captured during the 2011 registration exercise as well as those who could not register in 2011 for one reason or the other can also register this year,” he said.
