Jonathan reshuffles cabinet, appoints four new ministers

(ABUJA)

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday swore in and assigned portfolios to four new ministers at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They are a former governor of Kano, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, who was named Minister of Education and Mr Stephen Oru from Delta as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

Mr Clement Adeyeye from Ekiti was named the Minister of State for Works, while Abu Bulama from Yobe is now the Minister of Science and Technology.

In a minor cabinet reshuffle, Jonathan directed the former Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bashir Yuguda, to fill the vacant position of the Minister of State for Finance.

However, Yuguda remains the supervising Minister of National Planning and Chairman, National Planning Commission.

Jonathan urged the new ministers to be effective and conscientious in the discharge of their duties.

He said that they should realise that it was “injury time and at such points, changing of players is aimed at scoring goals’’.

The president urged them to be steadfast and selfless, believing that with their background, they would not find it difficult in fitting into their portfolios.

He advised them to imbibe team spirits and work to foster cooperation and cordial working relationship with their colleagues and subordinates.

Jonathan also warned that they should not see themselves as his ministers but cabinet members who had been chosen to serve their fatherland.
