No fewer than 4000 youths are to benefit from Bauchi State government’s youth empowerment programme, the state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hajiya Amina Katagum, has said.


Katagum told newsmen on Monday in Bauchi that the gesture was part of government efforts to check youth restiveness and address the problem of unemployment in the state.


She explained that the programme, tagged “Youths and Gender Upliftment Development Agenda” (YOU-GUDA), was one of Governor Isa Yuguda’s various initiatives towards assisting the youths.


She said the beneficiaries would be drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state for training in four critical sectors of the economy, namely health, sanitation and environment, education and security.


According to her, the beneficiaries are to serve as support staffs in those sectors in their various local government areas and will be paid monthly allowance of N10, 000 each.


“More youths would be trained under this programme until we cover all the sectors of the economy; this is just the first batch.


“I assure you, before the Yuguda led administration winds up, more youths, would be empowered to at least have a source of livelihood, she said. (NAN)

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV INEC to issue permanent voter cards in 10 states The National Independent Electoral Commission says it will commence the issuance of the permanent voter cards in 10 states of the federation. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue, Alhaji Baba Yusuf, told journalists on Tuesday that the issuance of the cards would be between May 23 to May 25 while the continuous voters’ registration would hold between May 28 and June 1. He said the commencement of the two exercises were a prelude to the 2015 general elections.
