PDP Grants Waivers to Ribadu, Marwa and Gundiri
Respite came the way of former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu; former military administrator of Lagos State, Buba Marwa and Markus Gundiri as the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday granted them waivers to contest the September 6 Adamawa State governorship primary election.
Also, the party urged its members in the state to decide their governorship candidate, stating that as far as it was concerned, “it is only the delegates to the September 6 governorship primary election that would decide who would be the governorship candidate of the PDP.”
Addressing newsmen yesterday after the deliberations of the NWC on the report of the three man waiver screening committee chaired by Senator Ibrahim Mantu, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh said that the party had unanimously agreed to grant waivers to Ribadu, Marwa and Gundiri.
According to Metu, the party’s leadership had no problem in reaching the decision to grant waivers to three governorship aspirants that defected from the All Progressives Congress.
He stated that the party and the entire NWC would not interfere in the conduct of the Adamawa State governorship election, saying, “We are not supporting any candidate. The screening and the primary election would be conducted in the spirit of fairness and transparency.”
The statement later sent to newsmen and signed by Metuh reads: “The National Working Committee of the PDP at the end of its meeting on Friday, August 29, 2014, unanimously cleared all aspirants who expressed interest to contest the October 11 Adamawa State governorship election on the platform of the PDP to participate in the party’s nomination process.
“After very careful and thorough consideration of all applications and the report of the Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha-led Adamawa State PDP Governorship Waiver Committee, the NWC was satisfied that all the
aspirants met the requirements stipulated by the PDP constitution to participate in the process.”
