Showdown in Ekiti as Fayose, Sen. Olujimi’s supporters allegedly clash

There was an alleged showdown in Ekiti state on Tuesday as supporters of Governor Ayodele Fayose and those loyal to Senator Olubunmi Olujimi allegedly engaged in a fisticuffs over attempts by a faction to allegedly advance Fayose’s interest during a meeting by the two factions.

The showdown occurred at Omuo-Ekiti, Kota-Ekiti and other communities in Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Reports say a House of Assembly member representing Ekiti East Constituency II, Dare Pelemo, who is believed to be loyal Fayose sustained some degrees of injury.

Recall that Senator Olujimi who was the Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti state and current Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, had debunked a report in a section of the media some days back that Governor Fayose was after her life.

She had said, “I am not fighting the Governor, neither is he fighting me. And, I am not that vile. If I want to fight the Governor, I will fight him decently. It is the work of detractors. Disregard such.”

Another report had equally claimed that she had rebuffed the governor after Fayose allegedly warned her to back down on her governorship ambition.

However, some reports said Tuesday’s clash erupted over the alleged “plan to take control of the meeting by one of the factions, which snowballed into physical combats” in which items were hurled at each faction.

The report also claimed that the Pelemo’s clothes were torn by Olujimi’s supporters, who mobilised to attack him for “attempting to advance Fayose’s interest” at the meeting.

It said, “The meeting ended in disarray as the team loyal to Senator Olujimi and team loyal to Governor Fayose exchanged fisticuffs.”
