By Dirisu Yakubu
ABUJA-The National Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chaired by former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi has suspended Mr. Ken Emeakayi, former Chairman of the party in Anambra State for a period of four years.
The committee in a statement in Abuja said it arrived at the decision after reviewing “the written and oral representation of Mr. Ken Emeakayi, including the numerous documents submitted to the Committee by him in respect of the allegations of refusing to obey lawful directions of the party as contained in the queries issued him and his response thereto.
“The Committee further considered the provisions of the Constitution of the party and found Mr. Ken Emeakayi to have committed infraction against the provisions of Section 58 (1) (b), (c) and (h) of the PDP Constitution.
Accordingly, the National Disciplinary Committee at its meeting held on 26th September 2017 took a decision to suspend and hereby suspend Mr. Ken Emeakayi as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party for a period of four years effective from 26th September, 2017 and terminating on 25th September, 2021.”
It noted that Emeakayi who has been reportedly working against the Anambra Caretaker Committee led by former Alphonsus Nwosu has by the action of the party “lost his membership of the party together with all the rights and privileges for this period of time.”
The cited portions of PDP Constitution empowers the party to take disciplinary action against any member who “says or does anything likely to bring the party into disrepute, hatred or contempt; disobeys or neglects to carry out lawful directives of the party or any organ or officer of the party; engages in any conduct likely to cause disaffection among members of the party or is likely to disrupt the peaceful, lawful and efficient conduct of the business of the party.”
