Those short listed were the successful candidates that took part in the entrance examination held on June 7. A statement issued on Tuesday by the Assistant Director (Press and Public Relations) of the Police Service Commission, Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe, however, did not state the total number of candidates that applied for admission. The statement said a member of the Board, Yakubu Mohammad, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, promised an improvement over the 2013 edition of the exercise. The statement recalled a tragedy that occurred in the 2013 edition when one of the applicants died during the physical exercise segment. A new report released by the UN refugee agency indicated on Friday. Sub-Saharan Africa hosts one-quarter of all refugees in the world, according to the report by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The UNHCR report shows that the number of refugees, asylum- seekers, and internally displaced people worldwide, has topped 50 million for the first time since World War II. According to the UNHCR’s annual Global Trends report, 51.2 million people were forcibly displaced at the end of 2013, six million more than the 45.2 million reported in 2012.
