Las Vegas Shooting Survivor Reportedly Killed in Hit-and-Run

A man who survived last month’s Las Vegas concert shooting that killed 58 people has reportedly died in a hit-and-run.

Roy McClellan’s widow, Denise, told KSNV that her husband was killed while hitchhiking on Nov. 17. He was hit by a car in Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

“I’m angry. I’m angry. I feel that he was under the influence of something or drunk and didn’t want to get caught, so he bailed and left my husband laying there in the street,” Denise said. “He doesn’t deserve that.”

Jason Buratczuk of the Nevada Highway Patrol confirmed to PEOPLE that a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a man occurred at 1:33 a.m. on Nov. 17. They said the victim was illegally walking on the highway. Nye County Sheriff’s office located the suspect vehicle the next day and criminal charges against the driver are pending.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the victim’s family. It has surpassed its $1,500 goal.

The McClellans were attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Oct. 1 when Stephen Paddock began shooting from his 32nd-floor suite at the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel-casino. In all, 58 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Denise said the tragedy had left an impact on Roy.

“It was really messing with his head and he was going to therapy,” she revealed.

She added, “This isn’t what I wanted for him. I don’t understand why he wasn’t taken at the shooting, but a month later he was taken this way. I hope my husband found peace and he’s safe now.”

Another couple who escaped the deadly shooting at the Route 91 festival have also since been killed.

Lorraine and Dennis Carver died in a car accident two weeks after the festival, on Oct. 16.

The couple’s car went off the road and struck a cinder block column at the entrance of their gated community in Riverside, California, which ripped off their vehicle’s rear axle and ruptured the gas tank, according to ABC News.

The car spun and hit another cinder block column, causing it to roll and burst into flames, the outlet reported. The cause of the crash is unknown.

Their 16-year-old daughter, Madison, heard the crash and ran half a mile to the accident site to find her parents’ car on fire, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Their oldest daughter Brooke, 20, said her parents were very much in love and devoted to one another.

Her father’s actions on the night of the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival was testament to that love.

“That’s just the kind of love they had for each other,” she told the Review-Journal. “Their love was selfless.”

Brooke described the last two weeks of their lives, between the mass shooting and their death, as one of the happiest in their two decades of marriage.

“After the shooting, they heard from all of the people they cared about most,” Brooke said. “They were so happy. The last two weeks of their lives were really just spent living in the moment.”
