Confab a failure, waste of funds -Igbo group

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Confab a failure, waste of funds -Igbo group Members of the Igbo Leaders of Thought have declared the ongoing national conference, as presently constituted, “a failure and waste of tax payers fund.” They said on Monday, in Enugu, that the 75 per cent majority controversy and other ground rules that slowed full commencement of the conference wouldn’t have arisen if the organisers were diligent and had consulted properly. Members of the ILT spoke after an emergency meeting in Enugu. Leader of the group, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, also said that non-adherence to selection of delegates based on ethnic nationalities was another challenge that may derail the conference from achieving the set objective. The group, however, said that despite its belief that the conference may not achieve the expected objective, it still believed that something good could come out of it. “Ethnic nationalities are the best suited to solve Nigeria’s problem. You can’t a

Terrorists in Nigeria are beasts, insane – Mark

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Terrorists in Nigeria are beasts, insane – Mark Senate President, David Mark, on Monday declared that terrorists in Nigeria had degenerated to the level of beasts and gradually becoming insane. Mark stated this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr.  Paul Mumeh, in Abuja while reacting to the latest attacks in parts of Benue state which claimed hundreds of lives and properties. Mark wondered how some Nigerians had suddenly became so wicked and cruel to one another and lamented that Nigeria was being decimated by their violent acts. He said,  “I cannot understand why people have resorted to killing each other at will without the slightest provocation.  This is not part of us. This is highly inhuman and unacceptable”. Metuh terror-link allegation, wild, irresponsible -El-Rufai

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Metuh terror-link allegation, wild, irresponsible -El-Rufai A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir El-Rufai on Sunday dismissed comments attributed to the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, as a futile attempt to divert attention from its governance deficits. El-Rufai said Metuh’s comments were consistent with the PDP’s habit of making wild statements and irresponsible conjuncture. He said this posture reflects the strong synergy between that party and its government whose record is a long litany of incompetence, insensitivity, impunity and needless deaths. This was contained in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Mr. Muyiwa Adekeye. The ex-minister was reacting to claims by Metuh that his recent comment about the 2015 general election was sufficient evidence of his involvement with Boko Haram insurgents. He accused the PDP of offering excuses and blaming other

Is this a healthy development? Are the Ghanaians gradually taking over the Nigerian movie industry? Saturday Vanguard  spoke with some Nollywood stars on this issue and these are their opinions. Bob-Manuel Nigerians prefer foreign things!-  Actor – Bob Manuel It’s a sad reflection of Nigeria’s craze for something foreign, even if it’s from smaller countries around us. Those countries don’t reciprocate in kind, so in the end, we become fools! We really need to sit up both as a nation and as an industry (Nollywood). The Ghanaians are catching up fast – Bose Arowosegbe, Actress The Ghanians are really catching up with us fast. They learned from Nigerians with

Confab: Delegates set up zonal secretariats

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Confab: Delegates set up zonal secretariats BY CLIFFORD NDUJIHE AHEAD of Monday’s resumption of proceedings, some of the six geo-political zones have set up secretariats where their delegates congregate to compare notes, brainstorm and firm up demands to be canvassed at the National Conference. The secretariats will also help delegates reach out to other zones for horse-trading. With the endorsement of 369 delegates (75 per cent) needed for any issue to sail through), the various zones and stakeholders will need to do a lot of consultation, horse-trading and networking to get their various demands accepted. And for any issue to win the sympathy of three-quarters of the delegates, it must be seriously and cerebrally canvassed, which will necessitate unity of purpose on the part of the canvassers. One of the zones that have set up a secretariat in Abuja is the South-East geo-political zone.  An Igbo leader told Saturday Vanguard the Sout

Probe The Killing Of Our Youths By Immigration Officials Now

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Probe The Killing Of Our Youths By Immigration Officials Now The news of the killing of at least 18 Nigerians, for that is what it is, who were jostling for appaarently available positions in the department of immigration is a lamentable and avoidable tragedy. The irony of the indefensible crime is that the applicant were being tested in logical reasoning. The exercise itself was bereft of any logic. The illogicality of assembling thousands of young men and women who could have been tested online could only have been lost on incompetent immigration officials. What has happened is murder occasioned by criminal negligence. Of course mass poverty and joblessness are a dirrect consequence of the irresponsibility of the ruling elite and the political class. We must not stop at mere condemnation of the act of the officials. We must deamand a thourough judicial probe of the unacceptable killing of these youg Nigerian. In the interim the h

Immigration Recruitment Test: Matters Arising. By Abdullahi Yunusa

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Immigration Recruitment Test: Matters Arising. By Abdullahi Yunusa Most Nigerians woke up this morning to be greeted with sordid stories and pictures of how millions of job-seeking Nigerians were crammed up in various open places to undergo the widely publicized Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) job test scheduled to hold in all states of the federation with the exception of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. I have lost count of the number of candid pictures of various centres taken by the job seekers themselves. Trust Nigerians, we all know how to create fun out of every nasty or unpalatable situation. Our resilient spirit remains our hugest asset and strength. This largely accounts for why we remain hopeful in situations that others would ordinarily resolved to settle with. The nationwide test has brought to the fore lack of proper coordination, ingenuity and tact in carrying out government businesses. It is a direct pointer to th

Ugandan rights activists challenge anti-gay law

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Ugandan rights activists challenge anti-gay law Ugandan rights activists and politicians have filed a legal challenge to overturn a tough anti-gay law condemned by Western donors. The law violated the rights of gay people and subjected them to “cruel and inhuman punishment”, they said. Several cases of “violence and retaliation” have been reported since President Yoweri Museveni signed the law last month, the activists added. Uganda is a deeply conservative society where many people oppose gay rights. However, some people are beginning to question whether punishments proposed in the law are too harsh, reports BBC Uganda correspondent Catherine Byaruhanga. It allows life imprisonment as the penalty for acts of “aggravated homosexuality” and also criminalises the “promotion of homosexuality”. The Civil Society Coalition on Human Rights and Constitutional Law, which represents about 50 groups, filed the petition in the Constitutional Cour

Okotie and other viable options

Latest blog entries - Eloti tV Okotie and other viable options BY IJEME OMOLEGHO LET’S  think hypothetically for just a minute. What should we expect if Rev. Chris Okotie of the FRESH Party, becomes President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? The same old display of inept and un-creative governance, or a departure from the status quo to world class ideologies that shape the times, and brings international discussants to ‘study’ the new and emerging Nigerian governance model? Other options that have been mentioned, who fit into this hypothesis include Governors Adams Oshiomhole and Raji Fashola, Mallam El-Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu, etc. This thought takes me back to the elections of 1979, when we had the luminous political quartet of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (NPP), Chief Obafemi Awolowo (UPN), Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim (GNPP) and Mallam Aminu Kano (PRP), all of blessed memory, as actors vying for the office of the President of Nigeria on our political stag

I must, however, commend his immense courage for speaking out and exposing the monumental corruption in the government that he once served as CBN Governor and that has now decided that they no longer require his services. Two weeks ago, he claimed that 20 billion US dollars had gone missing from the coffers of the NNPC. Today, he has been suspended and relieved of his duties for exposing the rot and speaking the truth. I have little doubt that the next thing that will happen is that he will be subjected to a formal probe and the EFCC will be called in to investigate his tenure of office. They will throw everything that they have got at him including the kitchen sink simply because he refused to play ball with them and cover up their penchant for monumental c

Meanwhile, acute diarrhea and vomiting  had hit five  local governments areas in the state, leaving the victims without medical attention as a result of the health workers’ strike. The development has forced the NLC in the state to call on the state government to urgently address the demands of the striking health workers so that they could go back to work in the interest of the people. Chairman  of the NLC, Kaduna  State council,  Adamu Ango, who spoke to journalists on Friday in Kaduna, appealed to Go
